Katsushika Hokusai's hand-painted shunga: world premiere at BVLGARI sweets
This rare event will be the world's first public showing of Hokusai's hand-painted shunga, which was given to the founder of Dutch studies, Philipp Franz von Siebold.
The ceremony was held in the exclusive Bulgari Suite at the Bulgari Hotel Tokyo.
The shunga that was exhibited at the event is called "Shunshoku Higicho" (The Secret Art of Spring Colors), a hand-painted work measuring 6 meters in length that was custom-made by Hokusai for the head of the Dutch trading post.
It had never been shown to the public since it was discovered in Paris 24 years ago as part of De Sturelles' treasured collection.
With the kind permission of Marriott International, we were able to rent out this wonderful venue.
We were able to display the original paintings by some of Japan's most renowned artists to an audience of 60 executives from Japan and abroad.
